Finishing Freedom Rings and a picture of a Baby Quilt

I am starting the last Block of the Month by Red Crinoline Quilts, Freedom Rings.  It is large, 88"x88" and very beautiful.  Of course, anything by Red Crinoline (formerly known as Bonnie Blue Quilts) is made from Civil War Reproduction fabrics.  I will publish a picture of it as soon as I am finished with it.  In the meantime, here is a photograph of the last pattern.

Several months ago, I blogged that my local quilt store, Fabric Garden, asked me to make a sample baby quilt for their shop.  I gave them the quilt on on July 25.  They had it quilted and bound.  I just noticed it hanging up when I went into the classroom area last week.

Simple Life - Section 2

I continued working on the Simple Life quilt.  I did the second section.  In case you didn't read my last blog, here is a picture of the book that I am using to make this quilt.

It took me a while to applique the cow.  It's body looks like a cow but the face resembles a goat.  As I stated in the last blog, I am lucky to have even finished it.

I am putting the top away for now.  I feel very fortunate that I can go on to other projects.

Farm Fresh Quilts - Simple Life by Kim Gaddy

I purchased an interesting book, Farm-Fresh Quilts by Kim Gaddy.  It looked like it would be fun to put together the main quilt.  It is on the cover of the book.

Last night, I finished the ten churn dash blocks to make the top and bottom of the quilt.

Today, I added the corners and side-set triangles to make the blocks on point.

I am following the order of the book.  Tomorrow, I will start on the small cow and one strawberry.  The cow is appliqued.  I hope I can make it past this block because I am a novice at applique.

Civil War Melodies - Month 7

I am behind with my Block of the Month piecing of Civil War Melodies quilt.  I received this kit 2-3 weeks ago and finally finished it tonight.  I am trying to finish each kit as I receive them so I don't fall too far behind.

These 8" blocks were fun and easy to put together.

Working and Sewing, DON'T MIX!

I have been working at Rio Americano High School for the last week in the Finance Office.  When I come home, I am too tired to sew!  I am working tomorrow but for a short time period.  I don't know how long but I hope that it is just a few hours.  My son, Tom has come to visit in between quarters.  He is heading back to Phoenix to return to school at 1:55 PM.

I have finished the quilt top, Envelope by Edita Sitar.  It was fun putting it together but it took longer than anticipated due to working and having my children at home.

Cute Fabrics!

Today, I took my youngest daughter, Caroline to UC Davis.  She just completed her first year at UC San Diego.  Caroline had to take a class over the 1st session of summer school at UC San Diego and decided to take the 2nd session at UC Davis to get a math class (the fifth class out of six in the calculus series) out of the way.  I dropped her off close to lecture hall and had nothing to do for the next 1 1/2 hours.  I decided to go to Vacaville and try to locate a quilt store, A Quilted Heart.  I've heard that it is cute and a lot of fun.  Well, I found it and loved the friendliness of the staff.  It is right off the Alamo exit and attached to a sewing and vacuum store.  I purchased the cutest fabric by Joanna Figueroa, a designer who lives in the East Bay.  Her company's name is Fig Tree and Company.  She also has a blog that I love to read.  She is so creative and talented.  I purchased several yards of fabric and a jelly roll.

I purchased an "Avalon" jelly roll and four yards of fabric from Joanna's "Tapestry" fabric line.  Her fabrics are lovely pastels and it looks like the jelly roll and the fabric will blend together to make a great quilt.

General Wives Quilt - Ready for Quilting

I have been finished with the quilt top for over five months.  I have been hesitant because of my old sewing machine.  It acts up and I become frustrated and don't finish putting the backing together to fit the quilt top.  Since I have my new machine, I thought I had better get the backing done and call a quilter to finish it for me.  It is large, 92.5"x92.5" and the pattern calls for the backing to be 100"x100."  I purchased the backing quite a while ago and am ready to tackle the large backing piece.

This fabric (left) is the back.  You can see it in the picture of the whole quilt below.  The picture on the right does not give the true color of the fabric.  In the picture on the right, it is yellow.  I don't know how to fix that.
