Fig Tree BOM Mystery Sampler: Month #3

I just finished all of the blocks for this month's Mystery Sampler.  I have enjoyed sewing these blocks because I have never made before.  Needless to say, I love learning to make new blocks.

Threads of Time - Month #3 - Martha Washington Star

I finished these four blocks this afternoon.  I have thoroughly enjoyed sewing these blocks that are in this Block of the Month.  I enjoy them because most of them are stars, my favorite blocks to make and they are 8 1/2" unfinished.  The blocks are large enough that very little bulk is created when seams meet and not too large making them difficult to store while the BOM and quilt is being completed.

Fig Tree Block of the Month Mystery Sampler: Month #2

I have finished this month's Mystery Sampler.  It took me a while to finish it because I had other projects to work on.  Yesterday, I had to report to Sacramento County Superior Court for possible jury duty.  Needless to say, I was not selected to stay and went home to finish this month's Mystery Sampler.  Phew!  I dodged that bullet, so to speak.  I hate sitting in judgment on someone else.

One Pineapple Block, two Posie Star Blocks and three Nosegay Blocks.

I have never sewn any of the blocks before.  I like sewing especially learning how to make blocks that I have never attempted in the past.







I even made the two Clamshell Blocks that still make my palms sweat.  I am not a competent applique-er so I feel very uncomfortable doing them.

Modern Building Blocks - Fig Tree Style - More Month #6

Well, I finally finished the sewing of a few sections of the quilt that was provided in this month's instructions.  I had difficulty sewing them together because I had to work at night after working the last two days and I was tired.

I am thoroughly enjoying this because

Modern Building Blocks - BOM - Fig Tree Style

This is the sixth installment of the Modern Building Blocks, Fig Tree Style.  I finished sewing this month's blocks:  #8, #11, #14, #26, #35, #37, #40, #41 and #42.  Here is a photo of these blocks:

I was able to put together one section of blocks that were in the instructions for the month.  I finished these just a few minutes ago and I thought I had better post these because I may not be able to sew the two remaining sections because I have to work the next two days.  Bummer! 

I was holding this section up and my husband took the picture and that is why the right side of the picture looks odd.  The large block on the left of this section is an 18" block.  The three blocks to the right and on the bottom are 12" blocks and the blocks above are 6" blocks.

Daysdream Block Of the Month - Month 8 - Sashing and Cornerstones

I believe next month may be the final installment of the Daydream Block of the Month (BOM).  I have sewn the cornerstones, sashing and assembled a majority of the quilt.  The only things left to assemble are the three last borders.  Well, maybe two months left?  The first border is a wide and white.  The second border is a thin "striped border and the last border is a colorful, wide border.  Interesting.....

I hope to finish it next month but it may the following month.  I am not looking forward to two months.  I am slated to report to the County of Sacramento Superior Court for jury duty next week.  Ick.  What a waste of time.  I am always selected and I don't mind serving but parking downtown is a pain!  Finding parking is so difficult.  Sorry but I am venting.  I hate downtown and all of it's one way streets.  I hope that I don't have to go in and they don't need the panel that I am assigned to.  Wouldn't that be nice!

Summer in the Park - Missouri Star Quilt Company and Wild Turkeys

I have been watching the videos produced by the Missouri Star Quilt Company for at least a year.  I am not sure when I started to watch and yes, I subscribe to the online videos.  It's like a guilty pleasure watching them.  Initially I stumbled across the videos by looking for a tutorial on how to bind a quilt without any effort.  I was quickly enamored with the "Ultimate Binding Tool."  I had to have one.  Sure enough, I found one at my local quilt store and purchased it.  I watched it many times and took copious notes to be sure that I followed the instructions to the "t."  I enjoy Joan's voice, her quick delivery and most of all her easy smile.  Well, I saw the video by Joan's daughter on the Summer in the Park" and the subsequent, "Summer in the Park II."  I thought it would be simple enough to use one of the many jelly rolls: a Kona Cotton White and a Horizon by Kate Spain.

After all of the work is done putting them together to make a quilt will be fun.

Wild Male Turkeys 

I never tire of looking at these huge wild male turkeys in my yard.  They travel in a pack of five to six males.  I have seen a pack of ten once.  They are larger and more colorful than the females.  When they are showing off their fantails, they form a circle with the fans on the outside and walk in unison so the circle is intact until something distracts (cars driving by and/or people walking) them and they run, every which way.

I enjoy watching these male turkeys.  The females look for food in larger packs, about twelve to fifteen.  They are smaller but can be aggressive in the spring when they are with their newly hatched babies.
